Did you know that one in five children struggles with a reading disability like dyslexia? At the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library, we’re here to help children and adults build the literacy skills they need to thrive, even if reading isn’t easy.
For children who hate reading, an undiagnosed reading disability could be the cause. The good news? Even children with dyslexia can learn to read with the proper support! It often takes extensive instruction in phonics and lots of practice. That’s where our library comes in.
We’re excited to introduce our new Decodable and Phonics Collection, designed to reinforce the phonics instruction kids are receiving at school. These books focus on breaking down words and sounds, offering a step-by-step approach to help struggling readers build confidence. Whether for home practice or extra support, these materials are ideal for children who need that extra boost.
Our new Vox (Read-Along) Chapter Books offer an immersive reading experience for older kids. Kids can listen to the story while reading along in the book. This combination helps with proper pronunciation, spelling, fluency, and comprehension—essential elements for improving reading skills.
In addition, our Large-Type Chapter Books are another excellent resource for children. The larger font size and fewer words per page help kids decode and track text more effectively, improving reading comprehension and reducing reading stress. Large-type books also build confidence by making reading more accessible and enjoyable.
Dyslexia doesn’t have to hold anyone back. Every child can become a confident reader with patience, practice, and the right tools. Stop by the library this month to explore our collections and learn how we can support your child’s reading journey!
